Spirituality

In character of African culture the Baka people embrace both the physical and spiritual domains of our world. Illness is accounted to an ill-wisher, established through an act of witchcraft. Customary ritual dances can be performed to cure the ill ridden individual and reverse the magic. The ultimate God of the Baka people is know as Komba the creator of all things. However, it is not traditional for worship or prayer to be a common practice among the Baka; as they view Komba distant
from their daily lives. An entity with a direct influence on the Baka people is Jengi the spirit of the forest. A common Jengi ritual is performed in its honer emphasizing Baka cosmology and society. Jengi reinforces an awareness to the tribe as their responsibility to the forest for the life it provides them.
